Curtis Jacobson promoted to San Jose Permanent Fire Chief

Curtis Jacobson, a veteran firefighter who has spent his entire 23-year career protecting his hometown, was appointed chief of the San Jose Fire Department on Tuesday after spending most of the year helming the agency as its interim leader. "I'm deeply honored to have this opportunity to lead an outstanding fire department," Jacobson said in a statement released after his appointment was ratified by the City Council. "Our mission is to protect the lives and property of San Jose residents, and I look forward to working with the men and women in the department and with the people in our community to meet the challenges for keeping San Jose safe."

Curtis Jacobson named San Jose Interim Fire Chief

A 23-year veteran of the San Jose Fire Department has been promoted to temporarily lead the agency until the city manager appoints a permanent chief. Curtis Jacobson, a deputy chief, will step into his new role Feb. 1, the city announced Tuesday. “Curtis has served in many capacities in fire operations, fire prevention, training, administration, and as fire marshal,”Dueñas said. “He has a broad and deep knowledge of the firefighting profession, our department and its staff, as well as our community as a result of his active personal community engagement.”
